#233: Forcing your choice on others (6)

Description

56,843,675,000 animals are killed by the meat/dairy/egg industries every single year on behalf of people who consume animal products.
This does not include all marine animals, nor the endangered animals killed and driven to extinction by the leading cause of global deforestation, greenhouse gas emmissions, ocean deadzones, pollution and habitat destruction, which is animal agriculture.
So when vegans tell people to stop harming animals and the planet, the “stop forcing your choice on me” response honestly confuses me.

I mean, aren’t meat eaters the ones forcing their choice on the animals?

If somebody was kicking a puppy, and you told him/her that he should STOP kicking that puppy, would you be “forcing your choice on him/her”? By telling him to stop forcing HIS/HER choice on the puppy? If not, then why is it suddenly different when it comes to needlessly harming other animals just because you enjoy the result?

Is telling a bully to stop bullying “forcing your choice on him/her”?
Is telling a puppy mill breeder to stop breeding dogs/cats “forcing your choice on him/her”?
Is telling a fur hag to stop paying to kill animals “forcing your choice on him/her”?
Is being against the Yulin dog meat festival “forcing your choice on them”?
Is speaking out against homophobia “forcing your choice on homophobes”?
Is speaking out against racism “forcing your choice on racists”?

If not, then how is speaking out against animal exploitation “forcing your choice on their killers”? Just because the victims are different or your perception of them is different, doesn’t mean that they don’t matter and that we should ignore their systematic oppression.
Many meat eaters don’t realize that they look at their victims in the same way as any other oppressor looks at their victims. As retired animal activist: Gary Yourofsky once said:

“The problem is that humans have victimized animals to such a degree that they are not even considered victims. They are not even considered AT ALL.
They are nothing.
They don’t count.
They don’t matter.
They’re commodities like TV sets and cell phones.
We have actually turned animals into inanimate objects - sandwiches and shoes. It’s the greatest magic trick ever performed.”

You cannot advocate “live and let live” and “let everyone make their own choices” if you’re forcing your victims to DIE for your choice. And, like Richard Watts from Vegan Sidekick put it:

“Even if somebody did start talking to you about veganism, is it really “forcing” their opinion on you? To simply say “please consider not stabbing animals” is a very reasonable suggestion, is it not? Nobody is in a position to “force” you to do anything, if you want to keep stabbing animals, I am not in a position to prevent you. Indeed, from a non-vegans perspective, your opinion is that animals should be stabbed in the neck. To me, that is a far more forceful application of an opinion than simply asking someone to re-evaluate their position on something politely.”

Look, it narrows down to this:

THERE IS NOTHING MORE IRONIC THAN SOMEONE WHO FORCES ANIMALS TO DIE TELLING A VEGAN TO “LIVE AND LET LIVE”.
